The Power of Dreams:
From the Pit to the Palace
“They said, ‘Let us see what will become of his dreams.’” – Genesis 37:20
There’s something powerful about a dream that makes it powerful. A dream reveals the future and divine destinies. His brothers thought that by conspiring against Joseph, they could destroy his dreams.
Joseph’s life is one of the most profound illustrations of how divine dreams can shape destinies. It was not just ambition that drove Joseph—it was revelation. He dared to dream, and that dream landed him in a pit, sold into slavery by his own brothers. Yet the very thing that seemed to bury him was the seed of his breakthrough.
The Dream That Got Him in Trouble… Was the Same Dream That Took Him to the Palace
Joseph’s dream did not change, but his process did. He was wrongly accused, imprisoned, and forgotten. But his dream never died. God kept watering it through delay, pain and injustice.
Suddenly…
God gave Pharaoh a dream that no one could interpret except the very man whose own dream had been mocked. Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dream, but in doing so, he not only solved Pharaoh’s problem, he also walked into the fulfilment of his destiny.
Joseph did not just interpret someone else’s dream—he stepped into his destiny by helping someone else unlock theirs. Your dream has purpose, even in the season of prison. You may be in a place where it seems your dream is forgotten. People might be asking, “Let us see what will become of your dreams…” But I want to declare over your life today:
My dream is not dead: it is going through the process of manifestation!
Even if you feel hidden or overlooked, the dream God gave you still carries power.
Joseph’s journey teaches us this:
- A God-given dream will be tested
- A God-given dream will require character development
- A God-given dream will bless others, not just you
- A God-given dream will lead to divine positioning
Dreams Speak in the Spirit Realm
God still speaks through dreams today. And not just to the saved—Pharaoh, Nebuchadnezzar, and even Pilate’s wife received messages from God through dreams. Whether in sleep or stirred in your spirit, dreams are God’s way of getting your attention. Do not ignore or discard them.
What Should You Do With Your Dream?
1. Write it down – Habakkuk 2:2 says, “Write the vision and make it plain.” Dreams are fragile. Do not trust your memory—record it.
2. Pray over it – Ask God for interpretation, clarity, and timing.
3. Guard it – Joseph shared his dream too early. Sometimes the dream is for you and God alone until the appointed time.
4. Prepare for it – Study. Grow. Serve. God often tests us in private before revealing us in public.
5. Stay faithful – The path to the palace is paved with pits and prisons, but purpose always prevails.
From Dreamer to Deliverer
Joseph’s dream was not just about him rising. It was about saving a nation during a famine. Your dream is bigger than you. It carries the weight of others’ deliverance—that is why the warfare has been intense and the delay has been painful. Because what you carry has the power to transform lives.
Do not abandon the dream.
Even if people mock you.
Even if the journey hurts.
Even if you’ve been forgotten.
Dreams from God never die; they manifest in His perfect time. While you wait, expect obstacles, opposition and the temptation for you to give up. But don't lose heart. In due season, your dream will come to pass. And when it does, those who once doubted you, even your haters, will be the very ones who come running to you for help.
Joseph's brothers never realised that by selling him into slavery, they were sending him into the very place where his dreams would be fulfilled. He was a dreamer, yes, but not just a dreamer. In the prison and in the palace, he held on to what God showed him. Even when falsely accused and forgotten, he continued to interpret the dreams of others, never letting go of his own. The same dream that got him into trouble was the same dream that took him to the throne. When God gives you a dream, no pit, prison, or betrayal can stop it.
Call to Reflection
- What dreams have you put on the shelf?
- Who or what tried to kill your dream?
- Are you ready to dream again?
Let God breathe on those dreams. Pick up your pen. Dust off your vision board. Your palace moment is closer than you think.

Prophetic Prayer Declaration
Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank You for the dream You have placed inside of me. Even when I do not understand it, I choose to trust Your process. I declare today that my dream shall not die. It will not be buried by fear, forgotten by man, or aborted by delay. I receive divine interpretation, heavenly timing, and supernatural favour. Like Joseph, I will arise, walk through every door You open, and stand in every place You have prepared. Use my dream to bless others. Use my journey to testify of Your glory. And let every mocker see what shall become of this dream—in Jesus’ name. Amen.
